You open your mouth to speak…
and suddenly your voice goes:
Meanwhile, your brain is yelling:
“Sound normal!”
“Be interesting!”
“What’s my name again?!”
Relax. You’re not alone.
And better yet—you can absolutely sound natural even when you're nervous.
Let’s walk through how.
The key? Shift from performing to connecting.
Before speaking:
One good breath = 50% more control in your tone.
Talking to someone chill? Lower your tempo.
Talking to someone high-energy? Loosen up your vibe.
This builds rapport and calms your inner pressure.
“That’s a great question…” (pause)
“So here’s what I think…”
Pauses = power.
They give your words presence.
Just let it out:
“I always feel a little awkward in the first 30 seconds of convos.”
“I had no idea how this interaction would go, but I’m glad I said hi.”
Boom. Now you sound human, not rehearsed.
Speak 10–15% slower than usual.
Pause before answering one question.
Smile after speaking.
Watch how much more natural and confident you feel.
When you breathe, slow down, and stay grounded—you stop sounding nervous.
You start sounding real.
That’s what makes people lean in.
